‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: James Partick Stuart Dishes On Valentin’s Dramatic Exit And Possible Return

‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers suggest that we may not have seen the last of Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart). JPS made his debut as Valentin in July 2016.

Last week, Valentin was sent to a maximum-security prison in Geneva called Steinmaur after months on the run with his “ma petite fleur,” otherwise known as Charlotte Cassadine (Scarlett Fernandez).

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: James Patrick Stuart Would Be Thrilled To Return To The Soap

Valentin’s sweet nickname for Charlotte translates to “My little flower” in French. No matter how evil Valentin was, it was more than obvious how much he adored his daughter.

James Patrick Stuart recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest and revealed he wasn’t on contract with the soap, so he said his character being hauled off to jail was “no skin off my teeth.”

Interestingly, JPS no longer resides in California, where General Hospital is filmed. He made the move to Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Jocelyn, last year.

“I ended up crashing at Michael Knight’s house and got to see the old gang again,”

He exclaimed.

Valentin being off GH gave him and his wife the chance to remodel their new home.

When Soap Opera Digest inquired about Valentin’s possible return, he responded, “Yeah! I love Frank Valentini (executive producer). I’m amazed by him.

“I can juggle three tennis balls. I’ve tried to juggle four, and I can’t juggle four. Frank can juggle 15 at the same moment, so I worship him,”

He said enthusiastically.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Valentin Was Sentenced To Life In Prison And Didn’t Even Get A Trial

On his departure from the soap, he said, “It’s nothing personal.” He was also fully open to the idea that if there were some meaty material for him, if he returned, he’d be happy to step into Valentin’s shoes once again.

JPS’s character, Valentin, was sentenced to life with no trial. However, fans can hold out hope, considering his last words to Charlotte after a warm embrace were, “Til next time.”

Not to mention, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) promised Valentin a “favor,” which will presumably be determined at a later date.

JPS also played another villain, Will Cortlandt, on the now-defunct soap All My Children from 1989 to 1992. In a clever Easter egg for longtime soap fans, when Valentin went to retrieve passports for him and Charlotte, the names Will Cortlandt and Melanie Cortlandt, who was Will’s sister from AMC, were on them.

The actor said the father-and-daughter dynamic between Valentin and Charlotte was always fun to play. There were times when Charlotte would be like a parent to Valentin, as opposed to the other way around.

General Hospital Spoilers: “There’s Always A Possibility Of Tomorrow”

A surprising fun fact that JPS told Soap Opera Digest was that he was never a contract player. He was a major character who was on the show for a whopping nine years without a contract, which is usually the kiss of death for a soap actor. But not for JPS.

JPS always made Valentin an intriguing character with many layers. He could be a hopeless romantic at one moment, such as with his leading ladies, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and, of course, who was arguably the love of Valentin’s life, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), and in the next moment he’s a total SOB.

JPS concludes by saying,

“The fact that Valentin got arrested and sent off means there’s always a possibility of tomorrow,”

He said.

“But he’s got to pay something, some kind of debt, although it’s been brought to my attention that people in Port Charles do tend to get away with a lot of weird stuff!”

He joked.

“But I will miss the show as much as they (the fans) will miss the character.”

We feel that Valentin will come back one day, and until then, his unforgettable presence on the show will be missed.
