The announcement hinted at a thrilling journey ahead, with plans for an Off-Off Broadway run in New York slated for late fall. Reisman will also take the helm as director of this intimate two-character play, which draws inspiration from a real-life situation.
The Play Is Based On A Genuine Friendship Between Eugene O’Neill And A Young Sailor
The play is based on the genuine friendship that blossomed in 1939 between the iconic American playwright Eugene O’Neill (played by Mendez) and a young sailor named Eddie (portrayed by Duell).
Eddie was brought on to help restore the front porch where O’Neill crafted his masterpiece, Long Day’s Journey Into Night.
Audiences are in for a treat as these two seasoned stage professionals take the spotlight together for a thrilling 90-minute performance without a break. It promises to be an exhilarating showcase, akin to an ‘Acting Olympics’ for these talented individuals.
Rehearsals start next week with a table read, then a spectacular public concert reading in April at the iconic El Portal Theatre in NoHo, complete with full technical support and costumes.
